Fodor's Review

Located in Forest Park, this is one of the country's best zoos and a leader in conservation efforts. Natural open-air habitats allow visitors excellent views of animals from the African savanna, including lions, tigers, elephants and zebras; curious giraffes have been known to stick their necks out to be petted by wide-eyed visitors. The zoo's "River's Edge" is an immersion exhibit that allows visitors to get close to such creatures as warthogs, wild pigs, black rhinos,

bush dogs, giant anteaters, and aardvaks. There's also a children's petting area with goats, sheep and other animals.

Best Zoo

This is by far my favorite zoo. Must do for the family. Admission used to be free, I think it still is. I have memories of going here as a child.

Real animal habitats up close...

I've been to a lot of zoos where you are lucky to get a glimpse of the animals doing more than sleeping off in the far corner of a pen. This is not that type of zoo. They've recently done a lot of remodeling that brings you up close and personal to the animals, and yet the critters are not confined to a small pen. The hippo pond is awesome, and the new elphant area rocks to. You've got to see it. Best thing about the place...its free. You can

park for free in the park and walk in or pay to park in the lot. Cheap way to entertain the family!
