Shopping Overview
The skyways in each of the Twin Cities connect hundreds of stores, shops, and enclosed shopping malls. The heart of downtown Minneapolis, and the city's main shopping district, is Nicollet Mall, a 12-block pedestrian-only thoroughfare where Mary Tyler Moore tossed her hat in the opening credits of her 1970s television sitcom. Elsewhere, you'll also find unique shops along Hennepin Avenue in the city's Uptown area, southwest of downtown Minneapolis.
The Summit-Grand area west of downtown St. Paul, also called Summit Hill, is a mixture of the traditional and the trendy. Grand Avenue runs parallel to Summit Avenue, and as it stretches west it turns into an urban shopping and dining haven. Nearby Cathedral Hill, a strip of several blocks on Selby Avenue, anchored by the Cathedral of St. Paul, offers stellar neighborhood dining and shopping. St. Anthony Park is a vibrant community known for stable residential neighborhoods, well-tended gardens, and convenient shopping areas.
