Springfield

Springfield, easily accessed from Interstates 90 and 91, is the busy hub of the Pioneer Valley. Known as the birthplace of basketball (the game was devised by local gym instructor James Naismith in 1891 as a last-minute attempt to keep a group of unruly teenagers occupied in winter), the city has a cluster of fine museums and family attractions.
