By Bus
The Nantucket Regional Transit Authority (NRTA) runs shuttle buses in town and to Madaket, mid-island areas (including the airport and Surfside Beach), and 'Sconset. Service is available May to late September. Fares are $1 to $2, depending on the route. Each of the routes has its own schedule (you can pick one up at the Chamber of Commerce, Visitor Services, the NRTA office, or at most any bus stop); service generally begins at 7 am and ends at 11:30 pm. All shuttle buses have bike racks and lifts. Fares are $1 in town or mid-island; $2 to Madaket, Surfside, the airport, or 'Sconset; seniors pay half-fare and children under 7—and pets—ride free. Passes run $7 for 1 day, $12 for 3, $20 for 7, $50 for 30, and $80 for the season, with attendant discounts available. Passes for up to a week can be bought on-board; longer-term passes can be purchased at the NRTA office.
