Although this modern, nautically themed beauty opened recently (in 2012), the structure dates back to 1891 and the golden age of grand seaside hotels. The original 19th-century shell remains, though inside is sleek, gleaming, and crisp, with a blend of calming neutrals and navy. Choose from a standard room or 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom suites, all with thoughtful personal touches and decorative nods to history: sperm whale pillows on the beds, historic photographs and murals of Nantucket, children's books placed in each room. Service here is exceptional, friendly, and plentiful, as are the amenities. Bide your time at the full-service gym (offering fitness classes), the pools, sauna, or at the firepit. There is an extensive children's program in full swing from late June through Labor Day, as well as free shuttles to local beaches. You may want to take advantage of the "Two-Island Vacation Adventure"; included are transportation and lodging at a sister property on Martha's Vineyard.
