Fifty-Six Union Review

There's a playful spirit at work here, evident from the crazily attired mannequin installed at a café table out front. Venture inside and you'll find a city-sophisticated space, with a civilized bar conducive to communal noshing. Inside or out (the lovely garden harbors a chef's table), Peter Jannelle's cuisine delivers global pizzazz. You'll want to make a habit of the truffle-Asiago frites, not to mention the mussels in mild curry broth, and the Javanese spicy fried rice. If this charming spot were more centrally located (it's about a five-minute walk from town), you'd have to fight to get in.
