Ships Inn Review

Tucked beneath Captain Obed Starbuck's handsome 1831 mansion, this whitewashed hideaway is a cozy candlelit haven where chef Mark Gottwald marries French technique with a California sensibility. If you want to eat healthfully, you can—though the perennial menu faves (grilled Chatham sea scallops with black-truffle hollandaise) tend to the rich end of the spectrum. Don't pass up the specials, as you await the requisite soufflé du jour. Gottwald has a way with lobster: passion-fruit vinaigrette!
