Let's not mince words: the suites carved out of this 1850 Greek-revival house are gorgeous. Neither Calliope Ligelis nor Randi Ott, the New Yorkers who rescued the place in 1999, had any design experience, but they approached the project as if preparing to welcome friends. Each suite has a private entrance and a kitchen. The spacious bedrooms are lavished with flowers, well-chosen antiques, and fine linens, including plush robes. Couples who have come to explore not so much the island as one another will scarcely have to come up for air. Pros: Pretty rooms, well-kitted out, romantic. Cons: No real reception area, lacks a common room, the usual in-town noise.
