The Boarding House

$$$-$$$$, Mediterranean, Nantucket Town

User Rating: *** 3.2

Fodor's Review:

Beyond the throngs of twentysomethings noisily mingling at the bar, you'll encounter a culinary oasis, a vaulted semisubterranean space reminiscent of a private wine cellar, with leather banquettes circling antique-gold walls. Here, under the watchful eye of star chef-owner Seth Raynor, chef de cuisine Erin Zircher showcases her skill with Mediterranean market cuisine. Comfort is the universal watchword: it's implicit in the creamy Spanish-style almond soup bejeweled with roasted grapes and seared day scallops, and in the signature dessert, warm dark-chocolate chocolate-chip cookies (like mini-molten cakes) served with a pair of "mini malted milk shakes." Come summer, you can sample from the menu at the sidewalk café -- provided you succeed in snagging a table.

Fly in my Wine??

Posted by John from Boston on 12/8/05

Good food, great atmosphere but service was a bit off when I told the waiter that a fly was in my wine. He took the glass away and brought it back having removed the fly - no new glass? no new wine? I told the manager that a "sorry" along with a new glass of wine on the house would have gone a long way...........
