Inn at Blueberry Hill

$$$-$$$$, Chilmark

User Rating: ***** 5.0

Fodor's Review:

Exclusive and secluded, this cedar-shingle retreat on 56 acres of former farmland puts you in the heart of the rural Vineyard. The restaurant, Theo's ($$$-$$$$), is relaxed and elegant, with fresh, health-conscious food that is thoughtfully prepared. You might dine on maple-spiced duck breast with sweet-potato gnocchi, or seared sea scallops with a basil-grapefruit-tarragon beurre blanc. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate, and a box lunch is available for a picnic on the beach (the inn runs a guest shuttle to Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches). Rooms are sparsely but tastefully decorated with simple island-made furniture; most have glass doors that open onto terraces or private decks. There is a large parlor-library with a fireplace. Pros: Lots of privacy, many rooms have terraces with views, terrific restaurant. Cons: Not a great choice for children, a long drive from town centers, Wi-Fi in common room but not individual guest rooms.

Secluded and beautiful

Posted by Kathy from Bartlett, IL on 10/10/06

My husband and I just spent a long weekend cycling on Martha's Vineyard and loved the seclusion of the inn. Very beautiful grounds, spacious rooms that were elegant, but simple. We didn't try the restaurant, other than ordering a couple of bottles of wine in our room :) I would highly recommend the inn if you're looking for a secluded getaway and want to explore that area of the island.
