Fodor's Review:

From the moment you walk up to the dark-wood Scottish barrister's check-in desk at this regal 1864 inn, you'll be surrounded by the trappings and customs of a bygone era. Guests' names are handwritten into the register by the dignified and attentive staff. Beautiful antique furnishings, objets d'art, and paintings fill the property -- the book you pick up in your room might be an 18th-century edition of Voltaire, and your bed could be a hand-carved four-poster. All rooms have hair dryers and robes; rooms in the carriage house have fireplaces and French doors that open into the brick courtyard as well as private patios. The elegant atmosphere that pervades the property extends to the inn's swank restaurant, the Catch. Pros: Over-the-top lavish, quiet yet convenient location, beautifully landscaped. Cons: Restaurant has changed over a lot lately, can feel overly formal, intimidating if you don't adore museum-quality antiques.

Thought I Had Died......

Posted by Rick from Haverford, Pa on 9/11/06

This is an exceptional place. The attention to detail is amazing. Everywhere you look, there is something beautiful....an 18th century tea caddy,an antique mailbox, or an extraordinary painting. The setting is beyond belief....both interior and exterior. The rooms vary in size, but ours was spacious, and very comfortable......great linens, etc. The owners can be found every day;she greets guests for breakfast and pours coffee in the morning, and he is in the gardens most of the day. Alex, the chef at The Terrace Restaurant, is not only a skilled perfectionist, he is very entertaining. The food is memorable to say the least. Working fireplaces in some bedrooms, very attentive staff might make you think you actually DID make it to heaven.

From the moment we arrived the service was impecable. We happened upon the inn just driving down the street. Staying at the Charlotte Inn made our vacation. We are absolutely going back!
