Fodor's Review:

This mansard-roof inn, bought by the nearby Menemsha Inn in 2005, is surrounded by 7 acres of lavish formal gardens and lush woodland; it sits on a bluff over Menemsha Harbor. The floral-theme rooms -- five in the main house and six in cottages -- have gorgeous furnishings, and some have whirlpool tubs; in the Daffodil room, bathed in shades of yellow and blue, you'll find a hand-painted queen bed and a romantic balcony. A vaulted, beamed ceiling rises over the bedroom of the secluded Morning Glory Cottage. As romantic settings go, it's hard to beat the restaurant ($$$$) here, with its knock-out harbor views, especially at sunset. For dinner, consider such memorable fare as pan-seared scallops with orange-mango-fennel salad, and the mixed grill of lamb chop with rhubarb compote, filet mignon, orange-infused duck, and chicken-apple sausage with truffle risotto. Pros: Gardens will blow you away, short walk to adorable fishing village of Menemsha, superb restaurant. Cons: A bit of a drive from any major towns, public Wi-Fi but none in rooms, pricey.

Terrible Customer Service

Posted by SRonsiva from Cambridge, MA on 6/21/08
While the Beach Plum is in a beautiful location, with incredible views, their customer service is terrible: During our first stay, I inadvertantly left my rain coat in the closet of our room when we checked out. I left several messages with the receptionist and sent several emails, and never received a returned phone call as to whether or not they found my coat. The receptionist was short and rude to me every time I called to follow up. After 2 months of calling them to ask about it, I finally gave up. Despite this, we booked our second stay at the inn the following summer. My fiance was injured and needed surgery 5 days before our scheduled arrival and we needed to cancel our reservation. I left multiple messages with the Beach Plum to cancel our reservation with the hopes that they could re-rent our room so we would not lose all of money. The receptionist was incredibly rude, every time I called to follow up she told me that they were getting ready for a wedding and had no time to get back to me to discuss my cancelled reservation and that I am more than welcome to try and find someone to take over our reservation on my own. Finally, they returned my call to tell me that I am responsible for paying the entire reservation and that they would not refund any portion of it if they are able to rent out any part of our stay. We completely understand that the inn had been inconvienced by our late cancellation (5 days proir), but the delay in their response despite numerous follow-up phone calls, and the unwillingness to refund our money if they were able to re-rent the room, was incredibly disappointing. We will not be staying at the Beach Plum again. Sarah R.

Picturesque and Fantastic Service

Would recommend to anyone looking to stay in a rural, garden like setting. Beautifully gardened grounds, large brick patio area surrounding the restaurant which overlooks the harbor. Just beautiful. We stayed in the Hydrangea room - which is not a suite - but tastefully decorated. The entire staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was fantastic! Very friendly and attentive and extremely helpful! Highly recommend. Restaurant has wonderful food and service as well.
