Lambert's Cove Inn and Restaurant Review
A narrow road winds through pine woods and beside creeper-covered stone walls to this posh, handsomely designed inn surrounded by gardens and old stone walls. In 2005, genial innkeepers Scott Jones and I. Kell Hicklin bought what had been a slightly fading 1790 farmhouse inn and gave it a clean, crisp makeover. The richly appointed rooms each have decorative schemes and antiques based on grand East Coast-resort towns, from Key West to Bar Harbor. Those in the outbuildings are airy and a bit more contemporary, some with decks and porches. Guests receive free passes to beautiful and private Lambert's Cove beach. Fireplaces and hardwood floors lend warmth to the stellar contemporary restaurant ($$$; reservations essential), where you might dine on crab cakes with caper aioli and shaved-fennel salad, or a main course of braised veal cheeks with sweet corn-English pea risotto and a Madeira wine reduction.

Lambert's Cove Inn was a tremendous experience. My travel partner and I reviewed several island B&B's online and chose this one because it looked clean and quaint (without looking dated) and was one of the few that had a pool and hot tub. After comparing 15 properties, Lambert's came out on top in terms of value (amenities vs cost).
Lambert's property is extremely well maintained and gorgeous. Every meal we ate there was phenomenal, including the fresh fruit and gourmet egg breakfasts, and our last dinner there--bacon scallops, croquettes, and beef tips--was one of the best meals we've ever eaten. Owners Scott and Kell were always at the ready to assist us with making plans for island adventures and calling us taxis.
Speaking of taxis--prepare to spend some money for them if you plan on sightseeing or getting around the island. And make sure to bring the wine, beer and/or liquor with you if you don't.
