Although the modest rooms here are clean and adequate, it's the friendly summer camp-like feel that makes this attractive compound great for families. There are old-fashioned lawn swings, a swimming pool, umbrella-topped picnic tables, and barbecue grills; but the main attraction is the waterfront. It's not open ocean here but a peaceful tree-lined inlet, with rowboats and pedal boats for guests' use. Some of the no-frills rooms in the 1960s-vintage motel have microwaves and small refrigerators; others have kitchenettes. A spacious three-bedroom cottage has three full baths, an eat-in kitchen, and a living room with a fireplace and two sofa beds. It's down a quiet lane off Route 28. Pros: Great for active families, right on the water, a good spot to launch a kayak. Cons: Noise and activity levels can be a bit much for those seeking quiet retreat (without kids), rooms could use some updating but are perfectly adequate.
