The Optimist Café

The Optimist Café Review

From the outside, this bold Gothic Victorian looks like something out of a Brothers Grimm tale, with its steeply pitched roof, turrets, elaborate gingerbread trim, and deep rose-and-green paint job—inside, vibrant yellow walls help convey the café's mission to "turn a frown upside down," and chances are you'll be delighted with the great selection for breakfast (served all day) and lunch, featuring traditional English fare like the Ploughman's Lunch. Other British Isles favorites include several curries, smoked fish options, scones, and crumpets. Royalty or no, you're bound to be most pleased with the afternoon tea. Try The Majesty, a fine offering of scones with whipped cream, a variety of finger sandwiches and desserts, a pot of tea, and a bubbling flute of champagne.
