If you're interested in very old houses (by U.S. standards anyway), there are two worthy examples privately owned yet open for touring. The Wing Fort House was built in 1641 and can boast the distinction of being the "oldest house in New England owned and occupied continuously by the same family for over three centuries." The interior reveals changing tastes in decor and architecture over the centuries.
