Shaded by a canopy of white pine, hemlock, and spruce, Nickerson State Park is a nature-lover's haven. Encompassing close to 2,000 acres of wooded landscape teeming with wildlife, the park is the Cape's largest and most popular camping site. While away a summer afternoon trout fishing, walking, biking on 8 mi of paved trails (which connect to the Cape Cod Rail Trail), canoeing, sailing, motorboating, or bird-watching; there are four ponds for swimming, plus ocean beaches nearby. RVs must be self-contained. Maps and schedules of park programs are available at the park entrance. Campground reservations are accepted six months in advance, mid-April through mid-October, and sites are available on a walk-in basis only the rest of the year. There's a $9.50 fee per reservation; note that camping fees are slightly lower for in-state residents.
