This big, dark restaurant buzzing with conversation is in a nondescript shopping plaza. The menu includes teriyaki chicken, prime rib, lobster ravioli, burgers, and baked scrod, but also has excellent pizza, with toppings such as wild mushrooms, blue cheese, and chicken sausage. Eating at the busy, U-shape bar is a good alternative to waiting for a table. The 400 has a cousin restaurant (also called the 400) downtown on Main Street.

This is not the type of restaurant you "plan" to go to...you just "show up". The food is American with just a hint of an Italian flavor and the deserts, if you have room for them, are basic but good. The prices are well within reach of the average budget. It is open year-round and I have used them for a large private party as well as a quiet dinner with my wife. I have never been dissatisfied. Whether a hamburger of a full dinner it is woth "showing up".
