Red Cottage Restaurant
Red Cottage Restaurant Review
Up Old Bass River Road ½ mi north of the town hall, the Red Cottage is indeed a red cottage and serves breakfast and lunch year-round. Locals pack this place even in the off-season, and you can expect a wait in the summer. The cottage is a no-frills, friendly place with food that runs the gamut from decadent stuffed French toast specials to a list of health-conscious offerings with egg whites, "lite" cheese, and turkey bacon. The grill is in plain view; if you want to watch your meal being cooked, the swivel stools at the counter have the best angle. Bottomless cups of coffee are served in an interesting collection of mismatched mugs. The breakfasts are better than the lunches, but both are no-nonsense and just plain reliably good.

When you first enter The Red Cottage your immediate impulse is to leave! Then you get a look at a menu board with the "specials" and the prices that go with them and think, "I'll take a chance."
That's about all you need to know about this place. The mismatched china and a sometimes raucus, but fun loving, group of customers make the place a hidden treasure. It's fun.
The food? If it's not on the menu and not a "special" just ask for what you want. Within reason they'll cook it for you. As you leave you can only think about how soon you can come back.
One drawback...the parking can leave a little bit to be desired but, wait a minute, a space will open up. -

Just completed a golf weekend with 10 guys. Had breakfast three mornings. The food & service was excellent. Red Cottage home fries are not to be missed. Of all the breakfast choices in the area I would rate this the best.
