Across from the Sandwich Glass Museum, this 18th-century house with fine colonial and Victorian furnishings is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to such decorative flourishes as ornate nonworking fireplaces and Oriental rugs, rooms contain high-thread-count linens, robes, and Gilchrist & Soames bath amenities. A gazebo on a nearby hill houses a secluded spa where you can arrange to have a professional massage. A hearty breakfast is served in the keeping room, which contains a fireplace and an antique table (older than the inn) that seats 10. Gracious hosts Jan and Charlie Preus know a lot about the region and have created a warm and inviting inn that's appealing whether you seek quiet seclusion or the opportunity to mingle with fellow guests. Pros: Easy access to town center, working fireplaces for cool nights, intimate and friendly inn. Cons: Most rooms accessible only via steep, narrow stairs, Deacon's Room is on the small side.
