With its deep, landscaped yard and wrought-iron fence, this elegant inn with a wraparound porch resembles a private estate. (The house got its name when a young guest is said to have exclaimed, "Look! It's mostly hall!") The imposing 1849 Italianate house has an upscale European style with painted wall murals in several bedrooms; the Tuscany Room's walls suggest an intimate Tuscan garden. Three of the rooms are more traditionally decorated, with colonial antiques; all have canopy beds. Some rooms have the benefit of fireplaces for cool nights. Breakfast is served in the formal parlor or outside on the veranda. Although the inn is steps from the town center, you can lounge in the gardens and feel a world away. Pros: Walk to town center, ample, parklike grounds, grand home in the Victorian tradition. Cons: Rooms accessed via steep stairs, bathrooms are a bit small, the bathroom for one room (discounted) is down a set of stairs.
