A Victorian tile ceiling, wide-board floors, and elaborate moldings and wainscoting are just part of what makes Jill and James Meyer's inn one of the Cape's most popular. Each room has its own personality; some are quite large, and all have fireplaces. The Hiram Harding Room, in the bow-roof Captain's Cottage, has 200-year-old hand-hewn ceiling beams, a wall of raised walnut paneling, and a large, central working fireplace. Suites in the former stables are spacious and have hot tubs, fireplaces, TV-DVDs, mini-refrigerators, and private patios or balconies. A young staff of British hospitality students serves an over-the-top full breakfast each morning and high tea in the afternoon. The herb and flower gardens and neatly trimmed lawns are stunning. Pros: Elegant lodging in authentic historic setting, beautiful grounds ideal for croquet (accoutrements provided), pampered service. Cons: Many rooms accessed via steep stairs, not an in-town or beachfront location.

My husband and I stayed at the Captain's House Inn over the summer (July 20008) and we truely enjoyed our stay. We typically prefer to stay at larger hotels like the Four Seasons or the Ritz-Carlton. However, the Captain's House Inn did NOT disappoint. The service was excellent and the inn-keeper, Jill, was incredibly hospitable and gracious. Our room was on the more-expensive side ($450+/night), but it was clean, well-appointed and had a beautifully landscaped outdoor sitting area. We will not stay anywhere else in Chatham and you shouldn't either.

This is an average place that is way overpriced...rooms are average...breakfast average...not worth the high prices they charge.
