Opened in 2005 and continually evolving and expanding is the Coast Guard Heritage Museum, housed in the old Trayser building. The structure itself is on the National Register of Historic Places, and the museum is filled with all things related to this seafaring branch of the U.S. military. Artifacts and displays also highlight early lifesaving and lighthouse histories, and a small shop sells related books and items. Elsewhere on the grounds is the circa 1690 jail, with two cells bearing former inmates' graffiti. Call for the ongoing schedule of lectures and events.
