The Port
The Port Review
An urbane and homey storefront café in downtown Harwich Port, the kitchen focuses on fairly traditional American fare, especially seafood, but with some inventive interpretations. You might, for instance, sample pan-seared shrimp with baby spinach and red and yellow tomatoes with a white wine-truffle sauce and angel-hair pasta, or grilled pork with Jamaican jerk spices alongside lemongrass-steamed rice and veggies. The Thai-style lobster-crab cake with wasabi sour cream makes for a nice starter. The menu is long and ambitious, and there's also an extensive, well-chosen wine list. Reservations only for parties of 5 or more.

Completing irritating! We called at 8 PM to see if they had availability for around 9 PM. The hostess told us plainly that they didn't take reservations for parties under five, but we could just walk in. So, we decided to commit to the 25 minute drive from Hyannis. We arrived at 9 PM. When we walked in the noise level was disturbing and the lobby was totally over-crowed. Then the hostess abruptly told us that they were no longer seating parties of two as they had too many reservations for large parties. UNBELIEVABLE! It would have been nice to know that before we made the pointless journey. So we returned to Hyannis and went to the Roadhouse - which is a home run every time. I have heard very bad things about the service at the Port - I am very mad at myself that I didn't listen to my better judgment.

I have never written a poor review for any restaurant..I believe it is best to say nothing...however the management service at THE PORT was so poor it needs to be stated. I have dined at THE PORT on several occasions over the years and each time there was certain arrogance about the management but I usually enjoyed the evening. At my recommendation, a friend made reservations for six friends to have dinner. The manager/host and the hostess were quite rude...we had a confirmed reservation for five as one friend could not join us... the restaurant had three empty four tops and two empty six tops...we were told to sit at a four top (with five people). We were told "if you do not like it you can leave”. The host/manager/owner was neither pleasant nor kind...in fact he was quite rude...we had reservations. The management will write back to this negative review...but please be advised this was not my first time at this restaurant...each time there was a certain arrogant air but usually the wait staff made up for it. The food is decent...but no one should forgive the unprofessionalism of the management.
I do, however, highly recommend the Cape Sea Grille--right around the corner.
