Fodor's Review:

The Cape Cod Museum of Art has a permanent collection of more than 850 works by Cape-associated artists. Important pieces include a portrait of a fisherman's wife by Charles Hawthorne, the father of the Provincetown art colony; a 1924 portrait of a Portuguese fisherman's daughter by William Paxton, one of the first artists to summer in Provincetown; a collection of wood-block prints by Varujan Boghosian, a member of Provincetown's Long Point Gallery cooperative; an oil sketch by Karl Knaths, who painted in Provincetown from 1919 until his death in 1971; and works by abstract expressionist Hans Hoffman and many of his students. The museum also plays host to interesting temporary exhibitions, film festivals, lectures, art classes, and trips. The outdoor sculpture garden has an eclectic collection on display; it's a pleasant place to take a short stroll. Admission is by donation on Thursday.
