The only standing structure in which original Pilgrims are known to have lived is about 10 mi north of Plymouth in the town of Duxbury, settled in 1628 by Pilgrim colonists Myles Standish and John Alden, among others. Alden, who served as assistant governor of Plymouth colony, occupied this house, which was built in 1653, along with his wife, Priscilla, and eight or nine of their children. One bedroom has a "seven-day dresser" with a drawer for each day of the week; the Sunday drawer, which held formal church wear, is the largest.
