Fodor's Review:
For a glimpse of upper-class life during New Bedford's whaling heyday, head 1/2 mi south of downtown to the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and Garden Museum. This 1834 Greek-revival mansion, set amid a full city block of gardens, housed three prominent families in the 1800s and is filled with elegant furnishings from the era, including a mahogany piano, a massive marble-top sideboard, and portraits of the house's occupants. A self-guided audio tour is available.
