Built in 1840 onto an existing 1740 house for a sea captain in the China trade, the Captain Bangs Hallet House is a white Greek-revival building with a hitching post out front and a weeping beech in back. The house and its contents typify a 19th-century sea captain's home, with pieces of pewter, china, nautical equipment, antique toys, and clothing on display. The kitchen has the original 1740 brick beehive oven and butter churns.
