Fodor's Review:

The French Second Empire-style Captain Edward Penniman House was built in 1868 for a whaling captain. The impressive exterior is notable for its mansard roof; its cupola, which once commanded a dramatic view of bay and sea; and its whale-jawbone entrance gate. The interior is open for guided tours or for browsing through changing exhibits. Call ahead to find out when tours are available.
