Scenic Drives, Wellfleet
Fodor's Review:
For a scenic loop through a classic Cape landscape near Wellfleet's Atlantic beaches -- with scrub and pines on the left, heathland meeting cliffs and ocean below on the right -- take LeCount Hollow Road just north of the Marconi Station turnoff. All the beaches on this strip rest at the bottom of a tall grass-covered dune, which lends dramatic character to this outermost shore. The first of the four, LeCount Hollow, is restricted to residents or temporary residents in season, as is the last, Newcomb Hollow, with a scalloped shoreline of golden sand. In between, White Crest and Cahoon Hollow are town-managed public beaches. Cahoon has a hot restaurant and dancing spot, the Beachcomber. Backtrack to Cahoon Hollow Road and turn west for the southernmost entrance to the town of Wellfleet proper, across U.S. 6.
