A few dozen yards from the Mayflower II is Plymouth Rock, popularly believed to have been the Pilgrims' stepping-stone when they left the ship. Given the stone's unimpressive appearance—it's little more than a boulder—and dubious authenticity (as explained on a nearby plaque), the grand canopy overhead seems a trifle ostentatious.

OK sure, it's a rock with the date "1620" carved in it, and likely wasn't the real rock the pilgrims first stepped out on from their ship. At least it's easy to get to, along the harbor street not far from the Mayflower II and a section of historic houses -- simple enough to walk past and gawk at for a couple minutes.
