In a rambling, gray clapboard house just off U.S. 6 on the main road into Wellfleet village, the Wicked Oyster serves up the most innovative fare in Wellfleet. Try the rosemary-and-scallion-crusted half rack of lamb over roasted-shallot-and-garlic potato salad, or the local mussels in tomato broth with smoky bacon, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime. Oyster stew and the Harry's Bar open-face burger (with caramelized onions, fresh mozzarella, and Worcestershire mayonnaise) are among the top lunch dishes. Breakfast is a favorite here—try the smoked salmon Benedict. There's also an outstanding wine list. Live music is offered many nights. Note that a new chef took over in 2007.

We have had numerous visits here for dinner. One of the big attractions besides the food is the fact that they do take reservations...something of a rarity on Cape Cod. My favorites are their rack of lamb and the braised short ribs...both outstanding. Once in a while we will stumble on a "bargain night" which is a full meal (salad, entree and desert) at a great price. We like it and many of our friends feel the same way. The parking is adequate but sometimes messy if the weather won't cooperate.
