Built in 1827 as a supply house for whaling ships, this wood-shingle building on Westport Point is now a modest, comfortable inn. The wood-floor rooms with exposed beams aren't large, but several have four-poster beds and all offer at least a glimpse of the water. Unfortunately, none has a private bath (the nine rooms share four baths), although one shared bath does have a whirlpool tub, and there's also an outdoor shower. The large, sunny breakfast room with comfy couches leads to a patio and yard -- note the three whale vertebrae that are now a garden sculpture. Pros: All rooms have water views, simple, attractive lodging in a scenic location. Cons: No private baths, rooms on the small side.
