Beyond the bustling docks where waterfront restaurants draw crowds and ferries, harbor-tour boats, and deep-sea fishing vessels come and go, the quiet esplanade by the John F. Kennedy Memorial overlooks boat-filled Lewis Bay. JFK loved to sail these waters, and in 1966 the people of Barnstable erected a plaque and fountain pool here in his memory. Adjacent to the memorial is Veterans Park, with a beach, a tree-shaded picnic and barbecue area, and a playground.
