Provincetown

You can go after fluke, bluefish, and striped bass on a walk-on basis from spring through fall with Cee Jay Fishing Parties (MacMillan Wharf, Downtown Center. 508/487-4330).

Wellfleet

You can climb aboard the charter boat Jac's Mate (Wellfleet Town Pier, Wellfleet Harbor. 508/255-2978. users.rcn.com/jacsmate) for fishing expeditions in search of bass and blues.

The Naviator (Wellfleet Town Pier, Wellfleet Harbor. 508/349-6003. www.naviator.com) operates fishing trips on a walk-on basis from spring through fall. Rods, reels, and bait are included.

Orleans

Many of Orleans's freshwater ponds offer good fishing for perch, pickerel, trout, and more. The required fishing license, along with rental gear, is available at the Goose Hummock Shop (15 Rte. 6A. 508/255-0455), which also rents kayaks and gives kayaking lessons and tours.

Rock Harbor Charter Boat Service (Rock Harbor. 508/255-9757; 800/287-1771 in Massachusetts) goes for bass and blues in the bay from spring through fall. Walk-ons and charters are both available.

Harwich

Fishing trips are operated on a walk-on basis from spring through fall on the Golden Eagle (Wychmere Harbor, Harwich Port. 508/432-5611).

The Yankee (Saquatucket Harbor, Harwich Port. 508/432-2520) invites passengers in search of fluke, scup, sea bass, and tautog aboard its 65-foot party boat. Two trips depart daily Monday through Saturday in season; there's also one on Sunday. Reservations are recommended.

Brewster

Many of Brewster's freshwater ponds are good for catching perch, pickerel, and other fish; five ponds are well stocked with trout. Especially good for fishing is Cliff Pond in Nickerson State Park. You'll need a fishing license, available from the town hall.[. 2198 Main St., (Rte. 6A), East Brewster. 508/896-4506

Dennis

Sesuit Harbor, on the bay side of Dennis off Route 6A, is busy with fishing and pleasure boats; several are available for fishing charters. The Bluefish (Sesuit Harbor, Box 113, Dennis Village, 02638. 508/385-7265. www.sunsol.com/bluefish) makes four-, six-, and eight-hour fishing excursions. The LAD-NAV (Sesuit Harbor, Box 2002, East Dennis, 02641. 508/385-8150. www.lad-nav.com) takes as many as six anglers per trip on a 36-foot fishing vessel.

Yarmouth

Truman's (608 Rte. 28, West Yarmouth. 508/771-3470) can supply you with a required freshwater license and rental gear.

Barnstable

Aquarius Charters Inc. (Barnstable Harbor. 508/362-9617. www.aquariussportfishing.com) supplies all gear on its 35-foot boat and offers four-, six-, and eight-hour trips for up to six people to catch bass, blues, tuna, and shark. Reservations are recommended.

Hy-Line (Ocean St. Dock, Hyannis. 508/790-0696. www.hy-linecruises.com) leads fishing trips on a walk-on basis in spring and fall, but reservations are mandatory in summer.

Falmouth

Freshwater ponds are good for perch, pickerel, trout, and more; you can obtain the required license (along with rental gear) at tackle shops, such as Eastman's Sport & Tackle (150 Rte. 28, Falmouth. 508/548-6900. www.eastmanstackle.com).

Patriot Party Boats (227 Clinton Ave., Falmouth Harbor. 508/548-2626 or 800/734-0088. www.patriotpartyboats.com) has deep-sea fishing from party or charter boats. Advance bookings are recommended, particularly for weekend trips.

Bourne

The Cape Cod Canal is a great place to fish -- from the service road on either side -- for the big blues and striped bass making their way through the passage seasonally (April-November).
