Ames Hotel Review
One of the newest players on the Boston scene, the Ames opened to quiet fanfare in November 2009. Run by the hip Morgans Hotel Group (think the Delano and Shore Club in Miami), the 114-room downtown spot is all New England modernity. Sound like an oxymoron? It's not. Foregoing the region's typical brocade and earth-tone interiors for something a bit more sleek, über-designer David Rockwell infused the rooms with sink-into white bedding, white marble, and light oak floors, iPod docks, and rain showerheads. Purists, don't worry, he also nodded to the 19th-century building's past with a sprinkling of Federal-style furniture. There are Malin & Goetz products in the bathroom (perched on a white sink, natch) and plasma HDTVs in the bedrooms; and for the visiting family, a one-bedroom apartment on the ninth floor. Downstairs are a fitness center and Woodward, the property's "modern-day tavern."
