This unassuming eatery near the Berklee College of Music started a chain reaction when it opened in 1997. Today Boloco (short for Boston Local Company) has more than a dozen area outposts. All offer "inspired burritos" that extend far beyond the standard Mexican variety. Fillings, for instance, can include Buffalo chicken with blue cheese, braised pork in Thai peanut sauce, or organic tofu topped with hummus and feta. The resulting wraps are easy on both your wallet and the environment. Thanks to ecofriendly initiatives—like using naturally raised meats and biodegradable cups—Boloco is certified by the Green Restaurant Association.
