Chandler Inn

Fodor's Review:

At the end of one of the South End's prettiest streets, this gay-friendly lodging is an easy walk to the T, the Amtrak station, or any of Tremont Street's trendy restaurants. This formerly plain-Jane inn boosted its fab quotient with a major room redesign. Forty rooms got a face-lift from two of Boston's hottest designers. (The other 15 rooms are now "economy" rooms whose rates dip as low as $79.) On the downside, rooms are dorm-room small; the bathrooms are minuscule, and the in-window air conditioners can be noisy. But if money is an object, this hotel is a contender. Try to snag a room whose number ends in 08, as these are sun-lighted corner rooms with views of the Back Bay. Fritz, a popular sports bar, moonlights as a brunch spot on weekends. The inn is a lively scene during June's Gay Pride celebrations. Pros: can't beat the price, friendly staff, deluxe rooms are stylish. Cons: parking is tough in this area and expensive, rooms can be noisy, expect more hostel than hotel in economy rooms.
