The New England-inspired menu of up-to-date dishes is hedged with traditional regional favorites made with locally sourced ingredients. Starters include raw seafood and a salad of braised rabbit on arugula; grilled Block Island swordfish and honey-lacquered duck breast are among the recommended main plates. The open kitchen makes some noise, but customers at the ever-popular bar don't seem to mind. Warm weather brings the opening of a lush outdoor patio.

Great wine, bland food

Ventured out to Harvest in May and I must say it took me some time to find. It is discreetly tucked away from the main street. My first impression was that I was in a furniture showroom with wooden floors. I guess they call this a 'new American feel' or 'modern tacky'. The staff were a bit snooty and self absorbed, prancing and preening like peacocks on display. Once seated, it took them ages to present me with a menu, they seemed to have difficulty in finding one..even though the restaurant was barely full. I began with a glass of champagne, followed by a very cold, ordinary veggie dish with goat cheese. I had to ask for the menu again, the make sure that it was presented as it was published. Then came the next disaster, my entree..a very bland, huge piece of cod, sitting on a bed of wilted meslcun leaves. There was not even a hint of garnishes or an inkling of jus for the cod! It was the most awful creation! Last, but not least..came the banana mousse disaster..ewwww! It was a mess! Reminded me of baby food with mashed bananas..the waiter raved about it...and I wanted to cry! What a palava! The saving grace for my evening was the wines..they were wonderful. Luckily, I had the sense to order from the wine pairings menu..even though the food did not measure up to the wines. I hope that Harvest has harvested and has improved for the better! It has great potential as a wine bar!
