Gordon Hamersley has earned a national reputation, thanks to such signature dishes as a grilled mushroom-and-garlic sandwich, roast chicken, and souffléed lemon custard. He's one of Boston's great chefs and is famous for sporting a Red Sox cap instead of his white chef's hat. His place has a full bar, a café area with 10 tables for walk-ins, and a larger dining room that's a little more formal and decorative than the bar and café, though nowhere near as stuffy as it looks. Brunch is served Sunday.

It is aptly named a bistro; it has the busy, casual sophistication of a Parisian bistro. My meal was wonderful and it stands out as my favorite dining experience in Boston.

A justifiably well-respected high end restaurant in the South End, best known for its signature roast chicken dish. Excellent food and service, with a surprisingly non-stuffy feel for its price range.
