This culinary landmark is elaborate and formal—one of a few remaining palaces of elegance in town. There are New England touches, but the entire space sports a Continental (and specifically French) vibe. Discreetly located on the second floor of the Four Seasons hotel, Aujourd'hui is a magnet for the city's power brokers and well-heeled travelers who cozy up to the renovated bar and lounge, which serves tasty martinis year-round. The food reflects an inventive approach to regional ingredients and New American cuisine. Some entrées, such as beef strip loin with foie gras or roasted striped bass over crispy veal sweetbreads can be extremely rich, but the menu also offers several solid vegetarian options. Window tables overlook the Public Garden.

One of Boston's best upscale restaurants, with a very nice view of the Public Garden. Stunningly expensive, with excellent food and service. Make reservations and dress up.

We enjoyed the Sunday brunch--especially the newly renovated room--food was great except for the eggs florentine, service was slow...
