Irving House

Fodor's Review:

Tucked away on a residential street three blocks from Harvard Square, this four-story gray clapboard B&B is a bargain. It has two small porches, hardwood floors, and Oriental carpets, making it homier than a hotel; there's a real sense of conviviality among guests, who are mostly European visitors and visiting parents and profs. Rooms are small but super-clean. They're being refurbished room by room, with new paint and furnishings; ask for one of the redone rooms when you book. The limited off-street parking is a real coup in car-clogged Cambridge. Pros: location and price, large downstairs sitting area has microwave, ice, and guest refrigerator; coffee, tea, and pastries are available until 10 PM. Cons: parking spaces are first-come, first served; small baths, some with only showers; rooms with a shared bath have no TV.

  • Hotel Details: 44 rooms, 29 with bath
  • In-room: no TV (some), Wi-Fi.
  • In-hotel: laundry facilities, Internet terminal, Wi-Fi hotspot, parking (free).
  • Rate includes: Continental breakfast
  • Credit Cards: AE, D, MC, V
  • Metro: Harvard
