Eliot Hotel Review

Have you ever imagined that you live on posh Commonwealth Avenue, modeled after Paris's epic Champs élysees? Even if you can't swing the real thing, you can indulge in a weekend away at the Eliot. One of the city's best small hotels expertly merges the old blue-blood Boston aesthetic with modern flair (See: zebra-print rugs mingling with crystal chandeliers), and everyone from well-heeled Sox fans to traveling CEOs to tony college parents has noticed. The smallish rooms are smart, not stuffy, and feel a bit French country and a bit Soho chic. The majority of rooms are one- or two-bedroom suites; all have marble-topped bar areas and flat-panel TVs. In most rooms the bathtubs were converted to Italian marble walk-in showers in 2011. Rooms ending in 02 have views of Commonwealth Avenue; those ending in 04 and 08 are larger corner rooms. Downstairs, the fine-dining Clio, helmed by chef Ken Oringer, garners raves for its contemporary French-American cuisine. Not to be outdone, Oringer's next-door sashimi bar, Uni, also in the hotel, regularly plays host to Boston's gliteratti.
