The Publick House

The Publick House Review

What started as a simple neighborhood beer bar has reached cultlike status for Brookline-ites and beyond. Serving more than 175 out-of-the-ordinary and artisanal beers, the bar also offers tasty sandwiches, smaller entrées, and main dishes, many of which have beer incorporated into them. A Trappist meatloaf, for example, is marinated in a Trappist ale, and there are beer recommendations to match. An adjacent taproom—the Monk's Cell—specializes in Belgian brews. Weekend nights find long lines, but one taste of the city's only "cuisine à la bier" is absolutely worth it.

One of the better places to get a beer in the region, the kind of spot that has the right glassware for the large and sophisticated roster of bottled and tap brews it sells. Food's not very good, though, and service can be spotty at best.
