Institute of Contemporary Art
Institute of Contemporary Art Review
Housed in a breathtaking cantilevered edifice that juts out over the Boston waterfront, the ICA moved to this site in 2006 as part of a massive reinvention that's seeing the museum grow into one of Boston's most exciting attractions. Since its foundation in 1936, the institute has cultivated its cutting-edge status: it's played host to works by Edvard Munch, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka. Early in their careers, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein each mounted pivotal exhibitions here. Now the ICA is building a major permanent collection for the first time in its history, while continuing to showcase innovative paintings, videos, installations, and multimedia shows. The performing arts get their due in the museum's new theater, and the newly refurbished Water Café features cuisine from local seasonal ingredients.

yk, from Boston
The new ICA is located in a stunning building right in the Waterfront district. The exhibition space is not large, but the view from the 4th floor gallery is great: with ceiling to floor windows opening to the Boston Harbor. Visit on Thursdays (open late and free) so you can enjoy art as well as dusk over the Harbor.
