American Repertory Theater
American Repertory Theater Review
New director Diane Paulus at the helm is edging the ART into packing sell-out shows and winning Tonys for revivals of Pippin and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess. The theater stages experimental, classic, and contemporary plays, often with unusual lighting and stage design, edgy scores, and multimedia effects. It boasts multiple venues. Loeb Drama Center has two theaters; the smaller black-box often stages productions by the irreverent Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club. Oberon, a modern theater space with flexible stage design at 2 Arrow Street, engages young audience in immersive theater, like the "disco-ball and hustle queen" extravaganza, The Donkey Show, on Saturday nights.
