New England Historic Genealogical Society

Libraries, Back Bay

Fodor's Review:

Are you related to Miles Standish or Priscilla Alden? The answer may lie here. If your ancestors were pedigreed New Englanders -- or if you're just interested in genealogical research of any kind -- you can trace your family tree with the help of the society's collections, which stretch back to the 17th century. An introductory lecture on how to perform your own genealogical study is given every first Wednesday of the month at noon and 6 (the evening lecture is canceled from December through March). The society itself dates from 1845, and is the oldest genealogical organization in the country.
