Fodor's Review:

This massive Romanesque structure was built in 1884 as a temple for the Working Union of Progressive Spiritualists. Beginning in 1914, it enjoyed a long run as a movie theater; as the AIA Guide to Boston points out, "it was the only movie theater a proper Boston woman would enter, probably because of its spiritual overtones."
