Kendall Hotel

Fodor's Review:

You might expect a hotel in a techno-zone such as Kendall Square to be all stainless steel and chrome, but this one is quite homey and ultrafriendly. In the former home of Engine House 7, it is stuffed with firehouse memorabilia. Owner Charlotte Forsythe loves collectibles, so an antique Chinese checkerboard and a ceramic dalmation add to the whimsical mix. Rooms are done up in Easter-egg hues. The small dining area serves local favorites such as Iggy's bread and Dave's Pasta. A seven-story addition in the works will include an enclosed rooftop lounge, eight deluxe rooms, and four suites with kitchens. Pros: Super-accommodating staff make guests feel right at home; extended, tasty breakfast is included; quiet rooms. Cons: May be too tchotchke-filled for some tastes.
