Kendall Hotel

Fodor's Review:

You might expect a hotel in a techno-zone such as Kendall Square to be all stainless steel and chrome, but this one is quite homey and ultrafriendly. In the former home of Engine House 7, it is stuffed with firehouse memorabilia. Owner Charlotte Forsythe loves collectibles, so an antique Chinese checkerboard and a ceramic Dalmatian add to the whimsical mix. Rooms are done up in Easter-egg hues. A seven-story addition includes an enclosed rooftop lounge, eight deluxe rooms, and four suites with kitchens, offering lots of space for families or anyone looking for a lot of room and kitchen facilities. Nice touch: the hotel hosts a wine hour from 5 to 6 PM nightly on the seventh floor. Pros: accommodating staff make guests feel right at home; hot buffet breakfast is included; quiet rooms. Cons: may be too tchotchke-filled for some tastes.
