All the regional seafood classics, from famed New England chowder to a sumptuous raw bar, can be found here, in the Cambridge outpost of the Legal chain. Just as worthwhile are the more-modern takes: seafood stew with Indian spices, for example, and grilled swordfish with mango salsa.

Part of a large chain. Maybe not the best seafood spot locally, but still a good option. Food generally good (probably the best place to get the really thick kind of New England clam chowder), rather expensive, OK service. A weaker location in this chain than the others, food and service is more inconsistent.

I visited a pal in Cambridge recently and she and I and another friend went to Legal in Harvard Square for Saturday lunch. We decided to sit at the bar, and we had a great time; the two of them had oysters as a starter. Our guy friend had a bowl of chowder, my pal had a salad and I had coleslaw and a fish sandwich. The bartender was charming and attentive and we all thought the food was tasty. The slaw was one of the very best I've ever had.
